Summer Employment Opportunities

Each summer the DaVinci Experience looks for dedicated individuals who love not only to teach but also to learn along with the children. We hire qualified counselors who have a passion for arts and science.

Our sessions are weekly. Staff may be hired for one or more weeks. Please
state on your application how many weeks you are interested in working. The camps run from June 20- Aug.26th 9:00am -3:00pm. Staff is expected to be on site from 8:45am-3:15pm Monday- Friday, and must remain on site for supervision and clean-up until the last camper has been picked up at the end of each day. Staff must also attend safety training and staff meetings as necessary.

Pre-camp staff training includes a CPR and First Aid training session.

Teacher

Responsibilities: To teach the camp's science and arts programs related to a specific theme each week. Teachers will familiarize themselves with the DaVinci Experience Instructor Curriculum Guides for the theme they will be teaching and the kit materials for projects in the lesson plans. Teachers also supervise teenage staff and campers and maintain standards that lead to a quality program.

Desired qualifications: Bachelors in Elementary Education or related education degree, or a degree in relevant fields of art and science. Current CPR and First Aid certification. Experience working with children. Enthusiasm, sense of humor and good character.

Camp Counselor

Responsibilities: To assist the lead teacher in conducting hands-on art and science activities, to lead games, and to identify and meet camper needs, and to clean up at the end of the day.

Desired qualifications: Desire and ability to work with children outdoors and in a classroom setting. Ability to accept guidance and supervision. Good character, patience, and self-control. Knowledge of games along with an ability to teach and referee. Must be able to obtain and supply a work permit to the camp director. CPR and First Aid certification.

Lifeguard

Responsibilities: To help the lead instructor coordinate Cousins Island waterfront and swimming activities and maintain standards that lead to a quality program.

Desired qualifications: Training and experience in waterfront activities and management; current lifeguard certification; current CPR and First Aid certification; desire and ability to work with children outdoors; and good character, adaptability and integrity.

CIT

Responsibilities: Learning to assist the lead instructor in conducting hands-on art and science activities; learning to identify and meet camper needs; attending staff and CIT training sessions and reading materials on child development, CPR and First Aid; developing leadership skills under the supervision of DaVinci Experience staff and adult mentor.

Desired qualifications: Desire and ability to work with children outdoors and in a classroom setting; potential to be a leader; ability to relate to one's peer group; ability to accept guidance and supervision; good character, integrity and adaptibility; enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience, and self-control.

Requirements: Must complete an application form and have a personal interview with the camp director. Applicants should be 13-15 years of age. Must commit to a minimum of 2 weeks (not necessarily consecutive) and participate in a performance review. A $100 fee is required.

Junior Counselor Volunteers

Students ages 14-15 are invited to become junior counselors for DaVinci Experience camp programs. They will gain leadership skills while assisting experienced staff in working with campers.

Requirements: An interview, written application, references, and completing the CIT program. There is no fee for this position.

Extended Day Camp Manager

Requirements: Must be an adult with at least a high school diploma. Degree in Early Childhood Development or Education preferred.  CPR and First Aid Certification or willingness to complete before camp begins.  Excellent people skills for interacting with children, staff and parents. 

Desired qualifications: Cheerful, creative, responsible, and have a sense of fun.
